APARTMENT BURGLAR ARRESTED

On the morning of May 14, 2022, the Maywood Police Department received a 911 call reporting a suspicious male entering a Mount Vernon Court apartment. The caller advised that his neighbor was not home and the unknown male did not reside there.

 

Lt. Darryl Wuhrl, Officer Matthew Della Bella, and Officer Benjamin Singer responded and located Willie F. Reid, 43, of East Orange, inside the apartment. Mr. Reid claimed to be friends with the resident and stated he had permission to be there. The resident was contacted and informed the officers that he did not know Mr. Reid and he did not have permission to be in the apartment. Mr. Reid was subsequently arrested for Burglary and lodged in the Bergen County Jail.

 

Following the arrest, Lt. Wuhrl located Mr. Reid’s vehicle parked several blocks away from the apartment. Mr. Reid’s vehicle was impounded and brought back to Police Headquarters where Detective Christopher Nichols applied for a search warrant. During the execution of the search warrant, numerous articles of clothing were located which tied Mr. Reid to multiple apartment burglaries that were committed throughout the state. Also located inside the vehicle was $1,479.00 in cash, gloves, flashlights, masks and screwdrivers. Mr. Reid was additionally charged with Possession of Burglary Tools and Financial Facilitation of Criminal Activity.

 

The Maywood Police Department Detective Bureau is currently working with other agencies regarding Mr. Reid’s possible involvement in burglaries committed in their jurisdictions.

 

These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
