RIVER EDGE MAN ARRESTED FOR OVERNIGHT CAR BURGLARIES

On the morning of May 13, 2020, multiple residents on Locust Drive reported burglaries and thefts to their vehicles during the overnight hours. Officers and Detectives retrieved video surveillance footage of the actor and his vehicle and subsequently identified him as James M. Kelly, 56, of River Edge. Mr. Kelly is also a suspect in several other vehicle burglaries that recently occurred throughout Bergen County.

On May 14th, Maywood Detectives located Mr. Kelly in River Edge and placed him under arrest for burglary, theft, and credit card theft. Mr. Kelly also had an active warrant out of the River Edge Municipal Court for a vehicle burglary that occurred on May 8th. Detectives turned Mr. Kelly over to the River Edge Police Department who lodged him at the Bergen County Jail pending his court hearing. These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Maywood Police Department would like to thank the River Edge Police Department for their assistance with this case.

Residents are reminded to remove all valuables and keep their vehicles locked to help prevent auto burglaries!
