HACKENSACK MAN ARRESTED AFTER BURGLARIZING MULTIPLE VEHICLES

On June 12, 2022, the Maywood Police Department was dispatched to East Passaic Street for a report of a car burglary in progress. Lt. Darryl Wuhrl, P.O. Matthew Della Bella and P.O. Stephanie Laurent responded and located the victim who was following the suspect, identified as Robert L. Oliver, 44 of Hackensack. As officers approached, the victim informed them that he had just witnessed Mr. Oliver enter his unlocked vehicle and steal a large sum of currency. Mr. Oliver ignored the officer’s commands to stop and continued to walk away as $100 bills fell out of his pockets. Officers attempted to place Mr. Oliver under arrest and he resisted. During the struggle one officer sustained minor injuries.

 

Further investigation revealed that Mr. Oliver burglarized two additional vehicles in Maywood. Officers recovered $1,400 in proceeds found in Mr. Oliver’s possession which was later returned to the victim. He was charged with Burglary, Theft, Criminal Attempt, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Burglar Tools. Mr. Oliver also had an active warrant out of Hackensack for $3,000. He was lodged at the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.

 

These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
