NEW YORK MAN ARRESTED WITH 2 LBS OF MARIJUANA
The Maywood Police Department arrested Louis Santangelo, 29, of Fort Plain, NY on drug distribution and money laundering charges.
At approximately 8:58pm on February 23, 2017, Officer Gregory Mulawka conducted a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Essex Street and Maywood Avenue on a gray Toyota Corolla for an improper turn and obstruction of vision violation. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, Officer Mulawka detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior compartment of the vehicle. The driver and front seat passenger, later identified as Louis Santangelo, also gave conflicting accounts of their whereabouts prior to the motor vehicle stop. A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded approximately two pounds of marijuana, cocaine, assorted drug paraphernalia and money suspected to be derived from criminal activity.
Santangelo was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana over 50 grams, Possession of Cocaine, Financial Facilitation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Santangelo is being held at the Bergen County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court.
These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
