RESIDENT CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT & CHILD ENDANGERMENT

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of PHILLIP CERONE (DOB: 5/20/1990, single; and employed as a teacher’s aide) of 854 Lincoln Avenue, Maywood, New Jersey on charges of Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, and the Maywood Police Department under the direction of Chief David Pegg.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a juvenile female was sexually assaulted by Phillip CERONE. As a result of the information received, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Maywood Police Department initiated an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Phillip CERONE was arrested on Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Maywood, New Jersey and charged with one count of Sexual Assault, N.J.S.A., 2C:14-2c(3), a 2nd degree crime; one count of Endangering the Welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a1, a 2nd degree crime; and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, a 3rd degree crime. CERONE is being detained in the Bergen County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Friday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Maywood Police Department and the South Hackensack Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
