MAYWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT

On February 22, 2019, the Maywood Police Department’s Detective Bureau was contacted by another law enforcement agency reporting a sexual assault that occurred in the past.  Det. Jason Liaban investigated the claim that a 14 year old female was the victim of criminal sexual contact during the summer of 2018 within the Borough of Maywood. 

 

Det. Liaban conducted an investigation and subsequently identified the suspect as Carlos Cardenas, 40, of Belleville.  Mr. Cardenas was charged with 3rd degree aggravated criminal sexual contact (NJSA 2C:14-3A) and 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child (NJSA 2C:24-4A(2).  He was subsequently released from Headquarters pending a CJP Court date.
