On Thursday, May 19, 2016, at approximately 2304 hours, Officer Shawn Patton conducted a motor vehicle stop on Essex Street on a 2006, Chevrolet Malibu for multiple motor vehicle violations. Officer Patton detected a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from within the passenger compartment of the vehicle being operated by Gabriel Vargas, 36, of Hasbrouck Heights. A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded two sandwich bags of marijuana labeled “dark pine” and “dead head”, a hand rolled cigar containing marijuana and $2,527 of US Currency. Vargas was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Financial Facilitation from Criminal Activity, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Failure to Surrender a CDS. Vargas was released from Maywood Headquarters pending a future court date.
