11.3.15 - THREE ARRESTED AFTER PACKAGE THEFTS & PURSUIT

Three men were in custody after an alert resident observed them stealing packages from the front steps of several Thoma Avenue homes. The witness was able to obtain a license plate and vehicle description and contacted the Maywood Police Department. Officers responding to the call located the suspect's vehicle on the south end of town and attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued, traveling north on Route 17 from Essex Street and back into Maywood onto several side streets. Maywood officers terminated the pursuit for safety reasons and shortly after, the suspects turned onto the railroad tracks near Maywood Avenue and Central Avenue. All three suspects bailed out of the car and fled on foot when their vehicle became disable on the railroad tracks. Maywood officers chased down and apprehended all three suspects. Officer Brian Rubio sustained minor injuries when one suspect jumped on top of him as he attempted to apprehend a second suspect.
