TELECOMMUNICATORS
9-1-1 IS FOR
EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY
The Maywood Police Department
maintains its own Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and
handles all 9-1-1 calls for service within the Borough of
Maywood. Our dispatch center is staffed 24 hours a day/7 days
a week by a certified telecommunicator or police officer to
answer all calls and dispatch Police, Fire, Ambulance and
Paramedics. All telecommunicators attend a 40-hour Basic
Telecommunications Training Course. Topics covered in this
course include interpersonal communications, basic caller
interrogation skills, recording information, message
construction and transmission, radio broadcasting rules and
procedures, legal and privacy issues, overview of police, fire
and EMS functions, Public Safety Telecommunications System,
New Jersey's Enhanced 9-1-1 System and operation procedures.
Telecommunicators also attend a 32-hour Emergency Medical
Dispatch training course which enables them to provide
pre-arrival medical instructions to the caller. |
