                                                     CITIZEN EMERGENCY PROGRAM

The Maywood Police Department has a program which will enable local senior citizens, disabled residents, and anyone with special needs to file an emergency information form with Maywood Police Headquarters. The forms will be distributed to any resident who wishes to have information about themselves on file with Police Headquarters.

Information such as:

Emergency contacts

Persons with a key to the residence

Medical conditions

Physicians to be contacted, pharmacy used, etc.

Will be entered into a computer at Police Headquarters. A hard copy of the form will then be given back to the resident for them to place on their refrigerator along with a 9-1-1 magnet.

Chief Reynolds explained that police are frequently called upon to check on the welfare of seniors who have not been heard from by relatives, friends and neighbors. Most times everything is fine, but there are occasions where the resident is sick or injured in the home and unable to call for assistance Reynolds said. With certain information in the computer at Police Headquarters and also displayed on the resident's refrigerator, police can provide a better level of service to the citizens involved in this program.

Chief Reynolds paid high praise to the Square Club of Maywood for their generous donation of a Gateway computer which will be utilized to manage this program.

It is hoped that senior citizens and citizens with special needs will take comfort in knowing that emergency information relating to their well-being will be available to Maywood's emergency services twenty-four hours a day.

Anyone wishing to participate in this program is asked to call (845-8800) or stop at Maywood Police Headquarters. Registration forms may be picked up at Police Headquarters or, if requested, they will be delivered to your home.

Registration forms will also be made available at the Senior Citizen Recreation Center on Duvier Place, and Maywood Borough Hall, 459 Maywood Avenue.
